- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 pkg. unflavored gelatin (1/4 oz.)

- Remove pot from heat, and add the gelatin pack. Stir with a fork or a whisk until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
- Pour mixture into glass jars.
- Add 1 drop of food coloring to each jar, and stir in with a toothpick.
- Allow mixture to cool slightly, and then stir 10 drops of essential oil into each jar (we used lime essential oil and love how it turned out!).
- Allow to set completely, and then twist on the lid.
- When you wish to use the air freshener, remove the lid, and set the jar in your desired location. This gel freshener works great for smaller room like bathrooms or offices.
Top good to be true? How long before it gels? Followed the directions exactly, 6 hours later .. no gel. What the heck. What a waste!
Sorry you are having difficulties. How long it takes to set up can depend on the climate you live in (such as how hot or humid it is). Try placing your jar in the fridge, without the lid on, to set up.
What is the shelf life of this product? Plus in warmer climates should it be kept in refrigerator? Just concerned about mold.
The air freshener will stay good for 2–3 months in a moderate climate, but you may be able to extend that shelf life by keeping it in the fridge.
Call me crazy, but I followed these simple instructions to the letter and this didn’t even THINK OF SETTING UP INTO A GEL FORM!
Oh no! We’re sorry you have had issues with our recipe. We aren’t really sure why your gel didn’t form, but one possibility is that if the lid was on as the gel freshener set, moisture may have built up inside the jar and could have caused the gel to not set up properly. This especially may be a problem if you live in a humid environment. Also, keep in mind that gel sets as the hot water cools to room temperature or cooler. We would recommend trying the recipe again and letting the gel set in a cool (65–75 degree) environment before placing a lid on it.
