Many deodorants on the market today are full of harsh chemicals that are doing more damage to our bodies than we think. It is possible to find deodorants that are safer for your body, but they tend to be expensive. We’ve created this all-natural recipe for a deodorant that you can feel good about—for your body and your wallet. You can add whatever oils you want to this recipe to make it your own.
And if your armpits have a hard time adjusting to chemical-free deodorant, we’ve included an armpit detox recipe below.
Melt the beeswax by placing it in a glass measuring cup in a pot of water over medium heat.
Once the beeswax is almost melted, add in the shea butter and coconut oil, and allow it to finish melting.
Remove the mixture from the heat, and stir in the arrowroot powder and baking soda.
Add 20–40 drops of your favorite essential oil or blend, and stir well to combine. (Start with 20 drops, and gradually add more until the deodorant reaches your desired scent.)
Before the mixture solidifies, pour it into the deodorant containers.
Allow the deodorant to cool for several hours or until solid and completely cooled.
Make “his” and “hers” deodorant by splitting the mixture in half and adding manly oils for him and feminine oils for her.
A blend that we tried and loved was 20 drops grapefruit plus 15 drops lemon. Let us know what blends you come up with!
It’s important to remember that sometimes your body can have a hard time making the switch from a conventional deodorant to an all-natural kind. If you use your natural deodorant and your armpits become smelly or you get a rash, you may need to do an armpit detox to clean the chemicals from your skin. Here’s a simple recipe to get your armpits clean!
Sometimes all we need is a relaxing face mask to clear our pores, hydrate our skin, and clear up any acne we have. Coconut oil is a natural antibacterial and antifungal agent, as well as an excellent moisturizer. We’ve created these 3 different masks for you to try out depending on your specific needs. Be careful to keep them out of your eyes, as the essential oils may cause some irritation. Try them all out and pick a favorite!
Spring rain can bring with it a lot of congestion; whether it’s from seasonal allergies or catching a cold, we all tend to get a little stuffed up this time of year. A common method of relieving congestion is taking a hot, steamy shower—so why not double the benefits by combining your hot shower with these eucalyptus vapor disks? These vapor disks can do wonders to break up congestion and clear your airways. Just place one on the floor of the shower, and breathe in the aroma with the steam. You’ll be feeling better in no time!
In a bowl, add water to the baking soda until the mixture forms a thick paste.
Add essential oils, and stir.
If desired, mix in 1–2 drops food coloring.
Line a muffin tin with the muffin liners, or use a silicone mold.
Spoon the paste into the liners until it’s about 1/2″ (1 cm) thick.
Allow the disks to solidify for 24 hours before removing from the liners.
While taking a hot shower, place the disk on the ground by your feet, and breathe in the aroma with the steam to clear your airways.
If the disks feel too wet, allow them to dry longer before using.
You can also bake the disks at 350°F (175°C) for 15–20 minutes to harden them faster.
It can be hard to get the ratio of water and baking soda perfect, but don’t worry—even if the disks crumble, they will still do their job. Just scatter the crumbles on the floor of the shower, and breathe in deep!
