Thanksgiving Gravy with Thyme Essential Oil

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper (or use 1–2 drops black pepper essential oil and add with the thyme essential oil)
  • 1/2 cup + 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 4 cups turkey drippings (strained) or 4 cups chicken broth plus 1 Tbsp. chicken bouillon
  • 1 drop thyme essential oil
  • Salt to taste


  1. Melt butter in a medium-size saucepan over medium-low heat.
  2. Stir in black pepper.
  3. Whisk in flour. Continue whisking for 3 minutes.
  4. Add turkey drippings or chicken broth and bouillon, and continue heating until hot and bubbly.
  5. Remove gravy from heat, and stir in thyme essential oil.
  6. Add salt to taste, if needed.
  7. Serve gravy warm over turkey and mashed potatoes!

  1. In your Poultry Gravy why are you using 1/2 tsp. black Pepper and not Black Pepper spray or oil ? Also in the Holiday Stuffing ?? What would the equivalent be in oils?

    • Thanks for the suggestion to add the black pepper essential oil to those recipes! Try using 1–2 drops of black pepper essential oil for every 1/2 tsp of black pepper the recipe calls for. You could also start with a toothpick and continue adding to taste.
