There are numerous ways you can use this app to find the information you need. From the home screen, you can look up a condition or an oil by either using the search bar at the top or by tapping on the figure to the left. Just tap the figure in the area you are wanting information for, and scroll through the menu that pops up to find the appropriate condition. The “Search” button on the bottom of the screen will bring you back to this page.

If you click on the “Conditions” button on the bottom of the screen, you will be taken to the conditions page. This represents highlights from the Personal Usage Guide section of the book Modern Essentials and contains the primary (red) and secondary (orange) recommendations. Scroll through the conditions by spinning the thermometer at the top of the screen. You can easily hide or view the thermometer by tapping the arrow at the top.

By clicking on the “Oils” button on the bottom navigation bar, you will be able to look up information about a particular single oil. This section represents highlights from the Single Oils section of the book Modern Essentials. Spin the oil bottle at the top of the screen to look up a different oil. You can easily hide or view the oil bottle by tapping the arrow at the top of the screen.

The “Usage” button will take you to a series of pages providing basic information about the topical, aromatic, and internal applications of essential oils. This section contains some information provided in the Science & Application section of the Modern Essentials book. Many of these information pages in the Usage section contain pictures, charts, or videos to demonstrate the topic.

NEW! The “Blends” section allows you to look up information on the blends listed in Modern Essentials. Personalize this section by renaming the blends simply by holding your finger on the current name and typing in the name of the blend you use. The changes made here are reflected throughout all the relevant areas in the app.

Where do I go to purchase the Modern Essentials App?

Download the app today from iTunes (for Apple devices) or the Google Play Store (for Android devices).

Now you can have key information from Modern Essentials with you wherever you go!

  1. I have the app on my phone but need it on my tablet. It wants me to pay for it again, but since I purchased it already can’t I just install it on my tablet w/out paying for it again?? Thanks!

  2. I loved the app…..up until it stopped working. Right after an app update it stopped working entirely and hasn’t worked since (over a month). Every time I click on it, it reads an error message of “Sorry! The application (process com.aromatools.messentials) of Modern Essentials has stopped working unexpectedly. Please try again.” I sent in a report but have not heard back from anyone.
I would love some help in getting it to work again!

  3. This is awesome! Thank you for creating this app! I downloaded on my iPhone. Is it possible to have it on my iPad as part of the purchase or woul I have to pay twice?

    • We are glad you like the app! If you have the same Apple ID on your iPad or are able to do the “Family Sharing” with Apple, then you should only need to buy it once and download it on both devices.

    • Mandy, the app contains a lot, but not all, of the information in the Modern Essentials. The Modern Essentials has 5 sections: Science and Application, Single Oils, Oil Blends, Wellness Supplements, and the Usage Guide. Out of these sections, the app has a condensed part of the application section (and no science information), the full single oils section, the full blends section, and most of the usage guide section (it only lists the red and orange—primary and secondary—recommendations). The next update should include the new oils that were added to the 6th edition of Modern Essentials. The app is designed to accompany the book as a quick on-the-go reference, but we still recommend having the book at home to reference the rest of the information.

  4. Mine is no longer working properly! I get a list of the blends but not of conditions or oils, it’s stuck on ADD/ADHD and Basil! Doesn’t have new oils in it either…suggestions?

      • Nope… There is on the blends page, but the oils and conditions pages only have and up or down arrow that scrolls that page. Wondered if I could delete and reinstall to get it working properly…

        • With the latest update, the blue rectangular bar has changed to be a skinnier bar with a half circle in the middle that has white up and down arrows in the middle of the half circle. Clicking on this bar should turn it dark blue briefly and produce a dropdown list of oils or conditions to scroll through. The blends section doesn’t have this bar with a dropdown menu and instead just lists out the blends so you can rename them however you wish. If your app doesn’t have a bar and dropdown menu like I described above, then you can try deleting and reinstalling the app. If that doesn’t work, let us know and we can dive deeper into figuring out the problem you are experiencing.

          • Ah-ha! No scroll bars, but I watched the video and the names/conditions scroll inside the bottle! Not sure how to change the name of the blends, but got it working. :-). Thanks for your help! If all else fails, follow the directions!

          • I’m glad you got it working! To change the names of the blends, just press on the current blend name until a text box appears and your keyboard pops up. You may want to just add to the current name since the conditions section will list the generic blend name when describing which oil to use.

  5. Is there a Spanish translation of this app in the making? There is so much interest in Latin America, and an app like this would make access to Modern Essentials much more practical! I would love to partner with a team in working on the translation! 🙂

    • The Modern Essentials app is based on the book, Modern Essentials, and the research contained within the book. The app makes the information available in an interactive way that is easier to navigate while on a mobile device than a website and allows the user to obtain the needed information without internet access.

  6. I wish you could make this app available for free for a limited time as a trial. I would like to have a look before I spend $7.

    • The app is available for iPhones and iPads. Make sure you are searching within the iTunes store rather than your library and it will come up if you search for “Modern Essentials” or “AromaTools”.
